Online Publishing
Object: a website for publishing books
The website could have a free and premium version. The premium version could host books that readers can purchase and load onto their personal e-books.
A protocol for efficient connection use especially for less compute-able devices like e-books, mobile phones.
- Author opens an account.
- Author publishes a text under one of several licenses.
- Readers use the book and rate it.
- Readers may also annotate sections that need clarification.

Why?
- All topics begin with the word 'why'. As one types in the rest of the sentence parses a 'question tree' on a specific question. e.g. 'why do humans yawn?', 'why does democracy not work as expected?' etc. All questions are simply structured: 'why' + [verb] + [subject] + [verb] + [...] is a structure example.
- Answers are ranked by the community just like in www.stackexchange.com or www.biostars.org.
- Some people qualify as experts once their credentials are verified.
- A way to link questions so that one can find related 'why' questions.
- Perhaps have one for 'what', 'where', 'who', 'how'.

Smooth-sliding Whiteboard/Presentation
When preparing a presentation we usually prepare one slide at a time. Why not have a continuous roll of the slide so that you can develop ideas and you can easily roll back? This is not necessary for all types of presentations but for those with graphics or sequences it will be very useful.
The idea can also be used for digital whiteboards. The board would pan sideways to extend (analogous to how a blackboard would roll up and down).
While on this idea, a physical sliding whiteboard can be build that is self-erasing! Cool!

Q&A
A website that has questions and answers. One can post a question for others to answer. The questions should be very simple not long and winding. A greater emphasis should be on 'why' questions rather than 'how, what, where' questions. The former are reason-questions; the latter factual and answers can be found by browsing any wiki.
Example: Why do we use statistics?
My answer: We use statistics to look for evidence of selection. Selection is the genesis of bias and indicates that an agent has tampered with an otherwise random process.
If you disagree with that response you can offer an alternative. Users can then vote for each answer.

Indoor Maps App Idea
Shopping App
Develop an app for mobile devices (smart phones, tablets, netbooks etc.) that facilitates shopping in several ways. The app has the following features:

This is not confined to shops but can be used for shopping malls as well. It can even extend to other facilities such as available parking etc. Proximity devices may be employed to enable devices only search for information on that store e.g. by taking into account the base station identity etc. This information may be integrated with other location-based services (e.g. Foursquare, Google Maps etc.) to extend location information to within building. This tool may also be applied to institutions such as universities (for freshmen to find their way around), hospitals (to get to your appointment with a specialist, visit a friend etc.). The bottom line being that one is able to navigate within buildings seamlessly using a single app. All that will be required is to download the map for the building (that anyone can view at the entrance to a building, anyway) and they will be able to locate what they are looking for.

- While the ability to search and identify the exact locations of items will potentially reduced the time it takes to shop there are other benefits: (i) shoppers can spend more time learning about items they are interested in once they have found what they are looking for; (ii) shoppers have many more items open to them via search.
- Targeted adverts may maximise return on investment since they get shoppers just when they are about to shop.
